2002 Frostbite RegattaClearpoint Model Yacht Club, Pasadena, TX Well the 2002 "Frostbite" Regatta is complete and was a huge success once more. 16 competitors traveled to join us for a one day event. Here are the results and some pictures of this years event.I am already looking forward to next years. The 2nd Annual Clearpoint Model Yacht Club's "Frostbite" Regatta was held on January 26th, 2002 at Burke/Crenshaw Park in Pasadena, Texas. Once again the "Frostbite" Regatta lived up to its name with the 16 competitors being greeted by an early morning frost and temperatures in the mid 30's. The mid-day temperatures, which reached into the 70's, were picture perfect and made for an excellent day for sailing. Many spectators gathered around constantly. The wind filled in from the North to Northeast as if on cue and 23 races were completed. Ted Cooper with the assistance of Dave Klingman were Co-Race Directors, and did an excellent job of overseeing the day's event. Ms. Nelda Tallman was our scorekeeper and race starter and as usual kept us all up to date on how things were progressing. A triangular course was utilized with starboard roundings, making the event very challenging and the sailing around the first mark cleanly, pivotal. John Kuc (Turner) soon showed his dominance as he captured the first race and then went on to eleven others. However, AJ Moritz, Ray Seta (Hooch), Gary Ward, and Charles Sudduth continued to challenge up at the front for position. This made for some very close finishes and some excellent sailing. Once again, at the half way mark, C.M.Y.C provided a wonderful lunch, consisting of two giant sandwich rings and the now famous hot potato soup. A special thanks to the Fletcher Family and Traci Cooper for creating and delivering this well needed meal. Attendees of this event traveled from all around Texas including San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, Houston and Pasadena. The event concluded with our RD's presenting beautiful glass trophies to John Kuc for first place, AJ Moritz for second place, and Ray Seta for a close third. Congratulation also goes out to Greg Shipper who finished a fantastic 6th in his first Regatta with us. A special thanks for everyone who attended. Next year's event is already in the works and will be even better still. Regatta Photos: (Click on an image to view at full size)
