Revised Skipper Ranking System (Effective beginning with the results of 2010 regattas.) The primary purpose of the revised Skipper Ranking System is to allow fleet splits to be made without conducting time consuming seeding races prior to the start of a regatta. It will be used, for this purpose, at the National Championship Regatta, but is also available for use at any regatta choosing to eliminate seeding heats. The secondary use is for skipper comparative discussion. It is based only on the prior year's regatta attendence to reflect current participation and encourage continued regatta participation. A simple recording system The Skipper Ranking System requires details of the event such as the date it occurred, number of competitors entering the regatta and its chevron level are to be recorded. The individual skippers positions are also recorded (not the points) along with their sail numbers. The ranking is based on a “boats beat” system, so if 25 skippers are entered in an event, first place is awarded 24 points, second is awarded 23 points and third is awarded 22 points, continuing all the way to last place which is awarded zero. In addition, all skippers are awarded 4 points for competing. Regattas finishes are then weighted by their Chevron Level. Gold events use a multiplier of 5. Red events use a multiplier of 3. Green events use a multiplier of 1. The totals are then added to get the combined points for all regattas a skipper enters.
